Job Description:
Fleet Mechanic (Full and Part-time Available)
Reports To:
This position reports to the Executive Director and/or the Operations Supervisor.
Job Overview:
The Mecosta Osceola Transit Authority (MOTA) is seeking skilled and dependable Mechanics to help maintain and repair our growing fleet of transit vehicles. This position plays a critical role in ensuring our vehicles operate safely, reliably, and efficiently while serving the residents of Mecosta and Osceola counties. This is a safety-sensitive position that performs a variety of skilled mechanical duties required in the maintenance and repair of MOTA transit vehicles. The ideal candidate is someone with multiple years of experience servicing gas fleet vehicles, has a current ASE Certification and/or State of Michigan Mechanic’s license, current CDL or ability to obtain a CDL, and is willing to work safely without supervision. Job training will be provided for the hired candidate. Varying weekday hours and Saturdays may be required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on transit vehicles and fleet equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
- Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure fleet reliability and safety
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records using computer systems
- Prompt and accurate reporting of any problems associated with the mechanical condition of the fleet or the condition of garage equipment.
- Accurately recording time and parts used on a vehicle on a work order during or upon completion of operation and submitting work orders in a timely manner.
- Reviewing daily vehicle check lists, noting and repairing any problem that may have been noted by the vehicle operator and supervisory team.
- Maintaining up-to-date records of all work performed on MOTA transit vehicles.
- Communicating on a regular basis with the Executive Director and/or the Operations Supervisor regarding the condition of the MOTA fleet and professionally presenting any problems associated with our transit vehicles.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be willing to follow strict safety standards
- Must be willing to work with a team and be flexible
- Must be a self-starter that demonstrates initiative
- Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends (if required)
- 5+ years mechanic experience
- Gas truck repair and diagnosis experience
- Strong electrical diagnosis skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to be on feet for 8+ hours a day
- Ability to lift 75 lbs
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen

- Additional compensation will be considered for candidates who possess:
o Master Auto Mechanic Certification
o Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification
o ASE Certification
